NA’ALEHU, Hawaii – A public information meetings on the mosquito-borne dengue fever outbreak was held in Na’alehu on Tuesday night, the second in a series of meetings scheduled by state and county officials.
Although the only identified “hotspot” for infected mosquitoes is in South Kona, health officials say at least 8 people with confirmed cases of dengue visited the Na’alenu area in Ka’u during the current outbreak. Earlier in the day on Tuesday, the health department conducted spraying at various locations in the area.
Mayor Billy Kenoi, Civil Defense chief Darryl Oliveira, state health officer Lorrin Pang, and others shared important information with the crowd of over 50 at the Na’alehu Community Center. They also took questions from the audience.
The next meeting will be held on Thursday, November 12th at the Konawaena High Cafeteria.
