KAILUA-KONA, Hawaii – The third annual ʻAha Aloha ʻŌlelo Hawaiian language competition and concert was held on Saturday, February 27, at the Kailua-Kona Big Island Honda parking lot. The event was hosted by Pūnana Leo o Kona.

We spoke to coordinator Kaho’okahi Kanuha about the event, which occurred at an important time for Hawaii, both politically and culturally.

In addition to discussing the competition, Kanuha talked about Na’i Aupuni’s recently drafted constitution for a Hawaiian Nation; Kanuha was recently arrested in protest of the ‘aha at the gates of the exclusive gathering on Oahu.
