(BIVN) – The National Weather Service says a High Surf Warning remains in place for north-facing shores of Hawaii Island.
A large north northwest swell has peaked but will remain large enough to produce dangerous surf, forecasters say. The warning is expected to remain in effect until 6 p.m. this evening.
Surf along north and west facing shores of the Big Island could reach 20 to 25 feet.
On Wednesday, the high surf forced the closure of Kalanianaole Street between Kolea Street and ‘Oeoe Street, as well as the Keaukaha beach parks of Onekahakaha, Kealoha, Waiuli, Waiolena and Richardson’s. Those closures remain in place today, as well.
