No tsunami, says Civil Defense
Pahala, Hawaii – A magnitude 3.9 earthquake shook the Ka’u town of Pahala on the Big Island of Hawaii around 7:30 in the morning on Wednesday.
Civil Defense officials were quick to spread the word that no tsunami was expected from the episode.
The temblor occurred about 2 miles west northwest of Pahala, and 11 miles north northeast of Naalehu. The depth was reported at 22.6 miles, according to the United States Geological Survey.
