(BIVN) – A High Surf Advisory is in effect for Hawaiʻi Island until 6 p.m. Wednesday.
The National Weather Service in Honolulu says:
A long-period south swell generated by a powerful long-lived storm in the southern hemisphere will gradually decline through tonight. However, a reinforcing south swell arriving Wednesday will likely keep surf heights at advisory level.
Surf heights will be 7 to 10 feet along south facing shores today, lowering to 6 to 8 feet Wednesday.
“Expect strong breaking waves, shore break, and rip currents making swimming difficult and dangerous,” forecasters said. “Beachgoers, swimmers, and surfers should heed all advice given by ocean safety officials and exercise caution. Know your limits and seek ocean recreation areas best suited for your abilities.”
