(BIVN) – The High Surf Warning continues for east-facing shores of Hawaiʻi Island today, but County beach parks will be open.
A reinforcing northeast swell is expected to gradually decline late Saturday into Sunday, and will be 10 to 16 feet along exposed north and east facing shores of the Big Island.
“Beachgoers, Swimmers, and Surfers should heed the instructions of Ocean Safety Personnel,” a morning Hawaiʻi County Civil Defense message stated. “Do not enter the water as dangerous currents make entering the water hazardous.”
Hilo Bayfront Highway remains closed, officials say.
The Hawaiʻi Electric Light Company has completed work on Highway 19 at the 38 mile marker and the road is open, civil defense added.
The Winter Weather Advisory in place for the summits of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa is set to end by 10 a.m. Saturday morning.
