Flood Advisory Issued For Kona, South Kohala

(BIVN) – The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a Flood Advisory on Thursday evening for an area of Kona and South Kohala on the west side of Hawaiʻi Island.

The advisory is in effect until 6:15 p.m. HST.

“At 3:17 p.m. HST, radar indicated areas of heavy rain from Kona northward to Waikoloa Village,” forecasters said. “Rain was falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour.”

Locations in the advisory include but are not limited to Kailua-Kona, Kalaoa, Kahaluʻu-Keauhou, Puʻuanahulu, Hōlualoa and Honalo, the National Weather Service says.

“Drive with caution and be alert for ponding or flowing water on the roadways,” a Hawaiʻi County Civil Defense message stated. “Do not enter fast moving water.”

The National Weather Service says the advisory may need to be extended beyond 6:15 p.m. HST if heavy rain persists.
