According to the county, trips by Mayor Billy Kenoi’s to the mainland helped secure the federal funds for the new highway, and this week the administration released the business travel and expense records for the mayor’s  first year in office.

The report, covering the period from December 1, 2008 through January 6, 2010, details Kenoi’s lobbying expenses, primarily for travel to and from Honolulu, totaling $9,281.

Travel expenses related to a Washington, D.C. trip totaled $6,862.

The administration says the mayor’s work with the Hawaii Conference of Mayors comprised the bulk of expenses in the report.

Mayor Kenoi also traveled to the U.S. Conference of Mayors annual meeting in Washington, D.C., in January 2009, and visited tourism industry leaders in Japan with the Hawaii Travel Authority in October.
