Hawaii County’s Department of Public Works made headlines on Friday when it was found that the Automotive Division had built two unpermitted carports on the East Lanikaula Street baseyard.

The same department’s Building Division, responsible for issuing building permits and enforcing construction standards, red tagged the structures pending corrective measures.
