A festival devoted to sustainability, alternative energy, and public education made for a unique event on Hawaii’s Big Island today.

E Malama `Aina Festival, a two day family expo at Hilo’s Mo`oheau Park, hoped to inspire and educate the public on options available for sustainable agriculture, energy, and living. The green themed event was organized by the Hawaii Island Chamber of Commerce, and was sponsored in conjunction with the County of Hawaii Department of Research and Development.

A series of “sustainability villages” were set up and hosted by various business and government entities, exhibiting innovative approaches to using renewable resources. The family education festival also included food and music.
