50 Big Island youth, ages 10 through 17, cast their lines along the Hilo Bay shoreline during the Hilo Jaycees first ever Youth Fishing Derby.
Each youth participant in the free event received lunch plus a full fishing kit including pole, reel, tackle and box. The kids also learned to use barbless hooks, which reduce the severity of injuries to the fish that are caught and released.
