The Hawaii Police Department has issued the following press release:

Big Island police are investigating burglaries at two restaurants in Kailua- Kona.

While investigating the first burglary, which occurred between June 4 and June 5, Kona patrol officers learned that two men and three juveniles were reportedly trespassing in a vacant apartment in a building next door. Officers arrested them for criminal trespass and located a laptop reported stolen from the restaurant.

During the investigation, officers learned that one of the men and a 17-year-old boy were responsible for a burglary at another nearby restaurant during the same time period. The man also was suspected of entering a vehicle parked at the county public parking lot in Kailua-Kona.

Brandon Kingsbury-Santiago, 20, of Kailua-Kona was arrested for burglary and criminal trespass. Taei Mu, 18, of Kailua-Kona was arrested for criminal trespass. A 17-year-old boy was arrested for burglary and criminal trespass. A 14-year-old girl and a 15-year-old girl were arrested for criminal trespass.

Mu and the juveniles were released pending further investigation.

Kingsbury-Santiago is being held at the Kona police cellblock while detectives from the Area II Criminal Investigations Section and Juvenile Aid Section continue the investigation.
