During the Public Works & Intergovernmental Relations Committee, a resolution seeking to expand the Hawaii island Humane Society’s West Hawaii Branch was given the initial OK.

The idea was brought forward by councilman Kelly Greenwell, and asks the county to clear the lot next door to the Humane Society for a lease.

The county’s new Environmental Management director, Frank DeMarco, favored the intent of Greenwell’s resolution, but said more work needs to be done to make it a reality.
