The final environmental assessement is ready for a new South Kona Police station.

The building is going to include an indoor pistol firisng range, offices, and holding cells

The state Office of Environmental Quality Control released the final EA for the project said to cost more than $15 million dollars. The station will be bult near the existing Captain Cook sub station along the Mamalahoa Highway next to the Kaopuka shopping center.

The building will be built right in the heart of Kona coffee growing lands, yet the EA finds no significant noise or other impacts on nearby coffee growing operations. The document finds only temporary effects on traffic.

The study was prepared for the county by geometricians associates of Hilo. However, exactly when the project will be funded and built… has not been announced.
