County fire rescue was called out late Sunday to find a man hiking the massive Mauna Loa volcano, who was overdue for a return.

He was reportedly lost and unable to make it down the trail above the Mauna Loa observatory due to darkness.

The man was contacted by cell phone, then located off the road trail, about two miles above the observatory. He was not injured, and denied any medical assistance.
