A late afternoon Veterans Day ceremony was held at Kilauea Military Camp inside Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. The entry fee into the park was waived for the many in attendance.

Among those sharing thoughts and memories on this veterans day were Cadet Master Chief Michael Castaneda of the Waiakea High School Naval JROTC, Jaime Kuntemeyer who recalled war hero Yukio Okutsu, and Reverand Richard Uejo, who urged everyone to reach out to the veterans they know, and honor them…

Veterans Day has been a federal holiday since 1938, marked by the 11th hour of the 11th day in the 11th month of the year… the time of the Armistice that ended World War 1 in 1918.
