Another home is being threatened by lava in Kalapana.

Lava is on the verge of destroying its third home in less than a year’s time. This structure belonging to self professed “lavatic” Peggy Fallwind appears to be in the most danger.

Big Island Video News spoke to Fallwind when lava began threatening the remote Kalapana Gardens subdivision in July 2010.

Now, Pele’s slow advance may finally spell destruction for Fallwind’s home.

Just a few weeks ago, lava from the east rift zone began flowing into the Pacific Ocean once more, after a short break.

Lava boat tours like this one operated by Shane Turpin and Lava Ocean Adventures have resumed the trips to ocean entry with excitement…

… meanwhile, a short ways inland, the Kalapana Garden community prepares for the worst, as the current breakout heads in their direction.

The USGS has mapped the latest lava breakouts, and have provided them to the public through their website at http://hvo.wr.usgs.gov.
