During the week of January 24, 2011, through January 30, 2011, Big Island police arrested 25 motorists for drunk driving. Ten of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Three were under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 113 DUI arrests compared with 147 during the same period last year, a decrease of 23.1 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 106 major accidents so far this year compared with 99 during the same period last year, an increase of of 7.1 percent.
So far this year, there were three traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with five fatalities during the same period last year, a decrease of 40 percent.
So far, the three fatalities this year were not related to drugs only (0), alcohol only (0) or a combination of both (0 of the 3).
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
