An amended version of the $56 million bond bill will still include $20 million for the La’aloaExtension in Kailua-Kona. Bill 311 passed, but a motion was made to reconsider.

The amendment, submitted by the administration, will now officially tie the various capitol improvement projects to the bond.

The project will construct about 1,400 feet of new 60 foot wide road, extending La’aloa Street beyond its Kuakini Highway terminus.

Lower La’aloa Avenue thru White Sands Beach Estates will also get an upgrade.

Mauka to makai connector roads are much needed in the Kona area. This need was well demonstrated when the recent tsunami surged onto West Hawaii. There were report of congestion on Kona roadways during the coastal evacuation.

The project, like all the others, will now be tied to the bond via an amendment that the administration says it will introduce at the bill’s reconsideration.
