A great day for waves in Honolii…

Kahoa Street – overlooking the popular beach park – was packed with fans and wave riders of all ages on Saturday, watching the surfing action underway in 27th annual Quicksilver Pro-Am Trials.

After weeks of waiting, the conditions finally met muster… in fact, a High Surf Advisory was in effect for Hawaii Island through 6 p.m. that day, with surf along east facing shores in the five to eight feet range.

Orchidland Surfshop owner and event organizer Stan Lawrence said the morning of the contest was really impressive, but things settled down a bit by the afternoon.

Still, occasional bomb sets were rolling in when this video was filmed around 11 a.m. … in time to catch some of the girls in action, and later the men’s longboard.
