HILO, Hawaii: 11th Annual “Kaihonua Sea Spree” will be held at Hilo Bay on Saturday, a special celebration organized by Na Wa`a Hanakahi ECO and The Paddlers of Laka. This year’s theme will be “Hilo Paliku Kauwela Ho’olaule’a”, according to this media release:

The 11th Annual “Kaihonua Sea Spree” will take place on Saturday, July 30, 2011 at Hilo Bay. Opening with a Sunrise Service to Honor our departed Elders, Friends and Family, Na Wa`a Hanakahi presents this cultural and educational festival honoring the traditions of our sea and lowlands through ocean and earth activities – with both friendly competition and recreation; focusing on FUN, FUN, FUN and Learning.

This year the Kaihonua SEA SPREE will feature Cultural Practitioners demonstrating their Arts & Crafts. A free health screening by the “Warriors Against Diabetes”, a Diabetes Self Management Group from Bay Clinic Inc., an Open Market and Food Demonstrations, and much more.

Keone Turalde once again will provide us with the days color commentary and musical entertainment, also onstage will be: Diana Aki, Glen Nihipali, Brown Fat Rhythm Section, Bambu and other Special Guests.

Kaihonua activities will begin at 8:30am, Beach registration will be from 7:30am

Na Wa`a Hanakahi Educational and Cultural Organization is a community based Eleemosynary Group whose values and goal is to provide a safe environment for our children and to the families of the world. Traditional practices and commitment to family is the Mission of NWHECO. To become well trained experts of the seas and lowlands bests describes our way of life.

…”mai Kupuna mai” translates to mean from “generation to generation” reflects our guiding star and current voyage.

Free canoe rides and activities. This is a FREE community based program. Please join us in enjoying the beautiful Hilo Bay and all the fun and excitement this festival has to offer on Saturday, July 30, 2011.
