SOUTH POINT, Hawaii: The Nani Kahuku Aina development being proposed for the land between South point and Ocean View Ranchos, which is currently zoned conservation, was the subject of a meeting in Milolii recently.

Pa`a Pono Miloli`i gathered at the halau to discuss the plan to create what is being called Kahuku Village on the coastal location.

Milolii is a distance away in South Kona, but the community still has concerns about the impact the project will have on the coastal environment. Kaimi Kaupiko explains.

The plan calls for a hotel, golf course, condominiums, estates and commercial centers to be built on the area. A Native Hawaiian cultural center is also being proposed.

The deadline for additional public comment on the project’s Environmental Impact Statement has been extended to Nov. 6.
