MAUNA KEA, Hawaii: In today’s Mauna Kea newscast, a look at a different transportation project… but no less important to the island.

The once infamous Saddle Road is set to celebrate another milestone in its transformation into a safe and reliable cross island highway.

Two events in one day, on either side of the long roadway.

The Hawaii DOT tells blogger Aaron Stene that the East Side Saddle Road opening and blessing ceremony, will happen at noon on Monday, probably at Mile Post 17 .

Then at 2 PM, the West Side Saddle Road project blessing will usher in the long awaited west side realignment.

Project officials spoke about the shortcomings of this western stretch of road recently at a meeting held at the Pohakuloa Training Area.
