HONAUNAU, Hawaii: Senator Brian Schatz walked a portion of the Ala Kahakai Trail on Monday, April 1, to survey acreage available for acquisition by the National Park Service.

The 70-acres of coastline land in Kauleoli would expand Puuhonua o Honaunau National Historical Park by adjoining the Kiilae parcel that was purchased in 2004.

Ala Kahakai National Historic Trail is a 175-mile long trail that follows the western coast on the Big Island. It is managed – in segments, for now – by U.S. National Park Service
