NEWS BRIEFS

• The lava flow sparked a brush fire on Friday afternoon. In a 3 p.m. message, Hawaii County Civil Defense said the 15 acre fire is mauka of Highway 130 and about one mile upslope. At the time of the message, the fire was moving in a north-northeast direction.
• The brush fire is contained within previously established fire breaks and poses no threat to area communities, civil defense reports. The Hawaii County Fire Department is on scene.
