HILO, Hawaii – A few residents of Hawaii Island pressed U.S. Senator Brian Schatz to reconsider his support for the Pohakuloa Training Area last week.
On February 18th, Sen. Schatz held a town hall meeting in Hilo, where he took questions from the crowd. It was a chance for residents to voice their concern on issues important to them. Some came to ask the senator about the future of the Pohakuloa Training Area. One speaker wouldn’t let the senator off the hook so easily for his support of the PTA mission.

shut down pohakuloa for good!
The military training at Pohakuloa is–in the military’s own words–for improving its “expeditionary” capabilities, meaning it’s NOT for defense of the nation. Rather, it is intended to increase boots in overseas operations–an Imperialist policy if there ever was one! So it’s time for the State to cancel the lease on PTA and return the aina to the inhabitants of Moku Loa.
