UMAUMA, Hawaii – A body was found Friday morning under a Hamakua Coast bridge.

Hawaii County Police issued a media release:

In response to a 9:10 a.m. call, officers were assigned to the the Nanue Bridge in the Umauma area near the 18-mile marker of Highway 19, also known as the Hawaiʻi Belt Road. They located a man’s lifeless body at the bottom of the bridge.Hawaii County Police

A coroner’s inquest case has been initiated. Detectives from the Area I Criminal Investigations Section are continuing the investigation.

The news follows the discovery of another dead body in the nearby Umauma Stream on June 1, later identified as 62-year-old Bobbie Jackie Carnathan of Kailua-Kona. Carnathan was reported missing in the days prior.

Police ask anyone with any information about the Nanue Bridge case to call the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call the islandwide Crime Stoppers number at 961-8300. All Crime Stoppers information is kept confidential.
