HILO, Hawaii – The Bayfront Highway is closed to all traffic at the Wailuku Bridge, also known as the Singing Bridge entering Hilo. A civil defense message was issued in order to alert motorists to the detour that will be in effect for the next few weeks as repairs are made on the bridge.
The Hawaii Department of transportation says the highway is closed from Pauahi Street (Milepost 2 in Hilo) to Hawaii Belt Road (Milepost 4 on Highway 19 on the Hamakua side).
Hawaii DOT says motorists are being detoured onto Kamehameha Avenue and Wailuku Drive through Saturday, Jan. 16, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The county says the closure schedule is anticipated to be in effect again on Tuesday, Jan. 19 to Saturday, Jan. 23.
