PUNA, Hawaii – Warning sirens are being testing in the Puna area of Hawaii Island today.

The Hawaii Emergency Management Agency, together with the Hawaii County Civil Defense Agency, says it will conduct the tests on Thursday March 3, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the following locations:

  • Kapoho Vacationland, Puna
  • Waa Waa, Puna
  • Hawaiian Beaches, Puna
  • Hawaiian Paradise Park, Puna

Emergency officials say “residents nearby may hear the siren sound six to eight times for 30-second to one-minute intervals during the identified timeframe. Testing will include short blasts known as ‘burps’. During the tests, emergency management officials and technicians will check that installation work on these sirens have been completed properly.”

Questions regarding this test should be directed to the Hawaii County Civil Defense Agency at 808-935-0031

HI-EMA encourages the public “to make use of other supplemental methods of warning including, but notlimited to, Hawaii County’s mass notification system, Blackboard Connect, and NOAA Weather Radio.”
