STORY SUMMARY

SOUTH KOHALA (BIVN) - Heavy rain has bee reported near mile marker 13 on Highway 190 near Puuanahulu, moving down slope toward the Queen Ka'ahumanu Highway.

SOUTH KOHALA – A Flash Flood Warning is in effect until 8:00 p.m. HST for the South Kohala area of Hawaii Island.

At 5:39 p.m. HST, the Hawaii County Police Department reported heavy rain near mile marker 13 on Highway 190 near Puuanahulu. Rainfall was moving down slope toward the Queen Ka’ahumanu Highway, officials say.

The National Weather Service said locations in the warning include but are not limited to Waikoloa Village, Puako, Puuanahulu, Pohakuloa Training Area, Pohakuloa Camp, Waikii, Mauna Lani and Waikoloa Beach.

Motorists are urged to drive with caution.

Deep moisture from around the periphery of the departing Hurricane Lester will move over the islands overnight, forecasters say, “keeping conditions wet over mainly windward and northern exposures of the western islands. As Lester lifts north of the island chain on Sunday, a humid and somewhat unstable southeasterly flow will bring the possibility spotty heavy showers.”
