Apparent Drowning Near Kohala Lighthouse

STORY SUMMARY

NORTH KOHALA (BIVN) - A surfer found a 63-year old man floating face down in the ocean. He was not breathing and had no pulse.

NORTH KOHALA – A 63-year old man has apparently drowned in the waters off Kohala Lighthouse, a popular surf spot on the northern tip of Hawaii Island.

Fire crews were alerted to the situation at Kauhola Point at 10:15 a.m. Saturday morning.

A news dispatch reports surfers in the water found the man face down in the ocean, not breathing and without a pulse. The surfers started CPR in the water, and brought the man to shore, where county fire personnel took over with resuscitation efforts. He was transported to Kohala Hospital.
