High Surf Closes Puuhonua O Honaunau National Historical Park

HONAUNAU (BIVN) - The National Weather Service has extended the current High Surf Warning for the shores of Kohala, Kona and Ka’ū until 6 p.m. Saturday evening.

HONAUNAU, Hawaii – Pu’uhonua o Hōnaunau National Historical Park is temporarily closed due to high surf.

The National Weather Service has extended the current High Surf Warning for the shores of Kohala, Kona and Ka’ū until 6 p.m. Saturday evening. Wave heights of 8 to 12 feet were forecast.

Hawaii County Civil Defense says a High Surf Warning means there is a significant threat to life and property from the surf.

National Park Service officials say assessments will be made at Pu’uhonua o Hōnaunau when it is safe and updates will follow.
