MAUNA KEA, Hawaii – The Mauna Kea Recreation Area is closed on until further notice due to a lack of water.

The Hawai‘i County Department of Parks and Recreation announced the closure on Tuesday, saying the park on Saddle Road was “closed on until further notice due to maintenance issues.”

Officials later said they closed the park because the water was not working. Charmaine Kamaka, the Director of Parks and Recreation, was confident the problem would be fixed soon.

In its announcement, the Department of Parks and Recreation apologized for any inconvenience the closure may cause.
