Crash Closes Saddle Road At 13 Mile Marker

STORY SUMMARY

HAWAII ISLAND - At 2 p.m., Big Island police reported that the highway was expected to remain closed for at least one hour. A passing vehicle recorded a glimpse of the crash.

UPDATE (3:40 p.m.) – The Daniel K. Inouye Highway, Route 200 (Saddle Road) is now open in both directions, police report.

(BIVN) – Both lanes on Saddle Road are closed due to a traffic accident at the 13 mile marker.

Police and Fire Department personnel are on scene, and report that the Daniel K. Inouye Highway, Route 200 is expected to remain closed for at least one (1) hour.

An update will be posted in an hour, officials say. “Please use alternate routes,” police say.

Melonie Lucero shared a video of the accident aftermath, taken from a passing vehicle. In the video, an overturned car can be seen, and apparent bystanders approaching crashed car.
