(BIVN) – Hawaii Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard had some tough questions for Defense Secretary James Mattis on Monday, during a hearing before the House Committee on Armed Services.

Rep. Gabbard put Mattis on the spot concerning U.S. military policy towards Al-Qaeda, especially as it relates to the conflict in Syria.

The hearing was held to scrutinize the Fiscal Year 2018 National Defense Authorization Budget Request from the Department of Defense.
