(BIVN) – A traffic collision has closed Highway 19 (near mile marker 13) between the Honomu and the Route 19 intersection and the Honomu transfer station road, police report.

Traffic is being routed through the old Mamalahoa Highway.

“Please drive with caution through the detour,” police urge motorists, adding that, “the road will remain closed for several hours while police conduct an investigation.”

Closure is expected to be for an extended period, county officials say.

UPDATE (6 p.m.) – The closure is expected to continue for another 3-4 hours.
