(BIVN) – East Hawaiʻi was under a Flood Advisory on Thursday evening, as thunderstorms and heavy rain were reported in Hilo, Hāmākua, Puna and Kaʻū.
Rain was falling at a rate of 0.5 to 1 inch per hour, and minor flooding was expected in the advisory area, the National Weather Service stated.
“Some locations that will experience flooding include… Hilo, Hawaiian Paradise Park, Volcano, Glenwood, Mountain View, Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park, Hawaiian Acres, Keaʻau, Orchidlands Estates, Papaikou and Pepeʻekeo,” the forecasters said.
The Flood Advisory is expected to be in place until 8:15 p.m. Thursday night.
A Flood Watch remains in effect for the entire island of Hawaiʻi through late tonight, as remnant moisture from former Tropical Storm Norbert is bringing moderate to heavy showers to the windward sides of the Hawaiian Islands.
