STORY SUMMARY

WAIMEA, Hawaii - Volunteers spent the past 4 years planning and fundraising. Now, on the home-stretch of the effort, more help is needed to complete the task.

(BIVN) – The Build in Waimea is now underway. From October 23 to the 29th, volunteers are getting to work, rebuilding the community’s treasured Anuenue Playground.

The playground is over two decades old and wear and tear has made parts of the playground unsafe. It is now being replaced, in an intensive 5-day effort similar to the way Anuenue Playground was first built in 1992.

Waimea has partnered with Play by Design Ltd and developed “a stimulating playground modeled after the original but with 21st century innovation and accessibility,” organizers say.

The team of volunteers spent the past 4 years planning and fundraising. Now, on the home-stretch of the effort, more volunteers are needed to complete the task. Already people have been showing up – in the rain – to lend their kokua… but many more hands are needed.

Work continues every day until 8 p.m. so there’s an opportunity to help out, even after working hours. We are told volunteers are even being served delicious meals by area restaurants for their efforts. They say there all all kinds of chores to do, and that you don’t have to be a master carpenter to lend a hand.
