(BIVN) – Hawai‘i County police and fire officials gave the people of Puna an update Friday night on their response to the ongoing eruption in Leilani Estates.
Hawai‘i Police Chief Paul Ferreira and Deputy Fire Chief Renwick Victorino spoke during a public meeting at the Pahoa High School cafeteria. It was the first meeting to be held on the new volcanic activity.
Both Ferreira and Victorino talked about the difficult effort to evacuate residents of the Leilani Estates and Lanipuna Gardens subdivisions, hampered by dangerous sulfur dioxide gas emissions, and address false rumors being spread across social media.
Big Island Video News will be posting the presentations made by the different departments.
