(BIVN) – The Hawai‘i Fire Department reports the brush fire near Waikoloa continues to burn and has been kept behind the fire break away from Waikoloa Village.

A Thursday morning update from Hawai‘i County Civil Defense says Waikoloa Road remains closed from Highway 190 to Paniolo Drive. Highway 190 is open, and emergency officials say “drivers must use caution and reduce speed between Daniel K Inouye Highway and Old Saddle Road” adding that “road status and conditions are subject to changes without notice. Avoid the area if possible.”

Last night, heavy smoke was reported blowing into Waikoloa Village. Residents were asked to monitor air conditions and take necessary precautions.
