Liquid Nitrogen Trailer Fire Extinguished In Hilo

HILO, Hawaiʻi - 38,000 lbs of liquid nitrogen was inside the trailer, located on Silva Street in the Keaukaha-area of Hilo Saturday morning.

(BIVN) – Fire crews managed to extinguish a fire in the wheel/brake area of a trailer containing 38,000 lbs of liquid nitrogen in the Keaukaha-area of Hilo early Saturday morning.

The trailer fire was on Silva Street and was reported at 2:18 a.m. The fire was put out by 2:27 a.m., a fire dispatch says.

Fire officials say crews extinguished the fire and cooled down the tank and wheel areas. There were no injuries, no leaks or off gassing of the container.

Road blocks detoured traffic to Kalanianaole Avenue during the response. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
