(BIVN) – State and County emergency officials are alerting the public to warning siren testing that is scheduled to be conducted today.

The Hawaiʻi Emergency Management Agency, together with Hawaiʻi County Civil Defense – will conduct siren testing Friday (September 20) between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the following locations:

  • Mackenzie State Recreation Area in Puna
  • Hilo Hillside Estates

According to civil defense:

Residents near these sirens may her the siren sound for 30-second to 3-minute intervals and hear short blasts known as ‘burps’ anytime between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm. These tests are necessary to ensure that newly installed sirens are working properly.

Hawaiʻi County Civil Defense also issued an audio message about the siren testing.
