(BIVN) – Forecasters are keeping an eye on a tropical wave in the Central Pacific that has a high chance of forming a tropical depression in the next few days.
The wave was located more than 1,000 miles east-southeast of the Hawaiian Islands as of Saturday night, and was producing a large area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms.
The National Hurricane Center says environmental conditions are forecast to be conducive for further development, and a tropical depression is expected to form in a few days while the system moves west-northwestward across the Central Pacific.
The National Weather Service in Honolulu says the weather in Hawaiʻi at the end of next week “will depend on the possible development and progression of a tropical cyclone in the Central Pacific.”
“While it remains too early to discuss specific local impacts, this feature warrants close monitoring over the coming days,” the forecasters said of the developing tropical wave.
