Police Identify Body Found At Kuawa Park In Hilo

HILO, Hawaiʻi - Police say the case is being investigated as a homicide, and they are asking for the public’s assistance in providing any information.

(BIVN) – The deceased male found in Hilo on Monday morning has been positively identified by police.

The adult male was identified on Tuesday as Donald Lawrence Yukitomo, age 76, of Hilo. An autopsy was preformed at the Hilo Benioff Medical Center, and preliminary results determined that the Yukitomo died of a gunshot wound.

Police are investigating the case as a homicide.

Yukitomo was unresponsive when police found his body near the fence at Kuawa Park, where Yukitomo was known to frequent.

Police are asking for the public’s assistance in providing any information regarding Yukitomo or the incident.

“Police ask anyone with information to contact Detective Amy Omaya of the Area I Criminal Investigation Section, at (808) 961-2385, or via email at Amy.Omaya@hawaiipolice.gov,” a police news release stated. “Citizens who wish to remain anonymous can make an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers at (808) 961-8300 and be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000. Crime Stoppers does not record any calls or subscribe to caller ID.”
