(BIVN) – The Kalapana area of Puna was placed under a Water Restriction Notice on Monday. A Water Restriction Notice requires affected Department of Water Supply customers to reduce water use by at least 25 percent.
“These restrictions are needed due to unexpected well and equipment malfunctions,” the Hawaiʻi County Department of Water Supply stated.
The department says it is currently hauling water to the upper Kalapana water tank.
“Reducing water use is necessary to maintain adequate water levels in the water storage tanks for all customers,” a news release stated. “DWS asks customers to use water wisely and not waste it.”
