(BIVN) – The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory for areas of North Hawaiʻi, in effect until Tuesday morning.
Northeast winds of 15 to 30 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph, will be possible in the districts of Hāmākua, North Kohala and South Kohala.
Wind Advisories have also been issued for portions of Lanai, west and southern Maui, and portions of the central valley of Maui.
“Winds this strong can tear off shingles, knock down tree branches, blow away tents and awnings and make it difficult to steer, especially for drivers of high profile vehicles,” the National Weather Service warned.
The Hawaiʻi County Civil Defense issued a radio alert, saying:
- Those in the advisory area should take necessary precautions.
- Drive with caution and be aware of debris, downed trees, and utility lines.
- Please stay clear of downed utility lines and report all hazards to authorities.
The Wind Advisory is expected to be in place until 6 a.m. Tuesday, November 3.
