A large, fast moving surface flow crashed through the Hawaii County Viewing Area and threatened the homes of self-professed “lavatics” on Saturday.

In this video, Kalapana lavatic Peg Fallwind talks about the latest volcanic developments, with a burning road just over her shoulder, a few hundred yards away.

Fallwind says one area resident has already abandoned his home, having lost access to it thanks to the advancing molten rock. Residents expect the structure to become a “offering” to Pele, the Hawaiian volcano goddess, within days. She also says that the burning kipuka has flushed wild pigs out into the open.

Fallwind also predicted that a lava ocean entry is likely to occur within 48 hours.

  1. Peg Fallwind— This is Jessica Hammons, Josh and I did a tour with you and two ther people, I got a smalllava burn and we came to your house and you gave me stuff to put on it and we talked about all the medical stuff—-I wanted to check on ya and see how you were doing since the flow is 300 feet from your house now. I miss being there already and we have only been gone like 4 days.
