(BIVN) – A rescheduled screening of a documentary about the Hakalau Stream Bridge, as well as discussion on bridge interpretive signs, is set to take place later this month.
The rescheduled event will be the second public screening of the documentary, “Hakalau – Bridges Across Time”. The bridge interpretive signs will explain the historical features of the bridge.
The event will take place on Saturday, August 29th, at the Hakalau Jodo Mission at 29-2271 Old Mamalahoa Highway. Here is the schedule:
- 4 p.m. – Doors open
- 5 p.m. – Video screening
- 5:30 p.m. – Discussion and Q & A on documentary and bridge interpretive signs, (which will explain the historical features of the bridge)
- 6 p.m. – Wrap up and final opportunity to comment on signs
- 6:30 p.m. – Conclusion of meeting
From the Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation:
The 30-minute video which details the plantation history of Hakalau and the Hakalau and Hāmākua Coast bridges, was commissioned by HDOT. The department is currently performing lead remediation on the Hakalau Stream Bridge, which is scheduled to be completed at the end of the year. The bridge was originally built in 1911 and later reconstructed in 1953. The lead remediation will be followed by rehabilitation of the bridge, which is scheduled to be completed at the end of 2030.
