(BIVN) – Two storm systems in the Pacific are moving westward towards Hawaiʻi but are not expected to threaten the islands.
The closest is the former Tropical Storm Norbert, which has since weakened into a tropical depression and is now just a remnant low. The remnants of Norbert were 780 miles east of Hilo as of 5 a.m. Tuesday morning.
Norbert is expected to dissipate on Wednesday, however moisture from the remnants “will bring a sharp increase in showers from late Wednesday night through early Friday,” the National Weather Service says. “Instability will be sufficient for an isolated thunderstorm as well.”
“Heavy rain is possible, and a flood watch may be needed as we get closer in time,” the forecasters stated.
Meanwhile, Tropical Depression Fifteen-E is about 1,025 miles west southwest of the southern tip of Baja California. The depression is moving toward the west near 12 mph, but little change in strength is forecast during the next few days.

The depression remains within a moderate wind shear environment near a mid- to upper-level low, with dry mid-level air entraining into the center. While shear is forecast to decrease later today, the dry air entrainment should limit significant development, though it is possible the system could briefly become a tropical storm. Wind shear is expected to increase again in a couple days, causing the system to struggle to produce deep convection. Thus, the depression is forecast to become a post-tropical cyclone by 60 h, and open into a trough by day 4. No large changes were made to the previous advisory.
The Central Pacific Hurricane Season runs until November 30th of this year.
