(BIVN) – Hawaiʻi island executive and communications strategist Cyrus Johnasen has been appointed to serve on the Hawaiʻi State Land Use Commission.
Governor Josh Green announced the appointment on Tuesday. If confirmed by the State Senate, Johnasen will serve a term to end June 30, 2030.
The Land Use Commission is a nine-member volunteer board, and are responsible for reviewing and acting on petitions for district boundary amendments involving more than 15 acres or lands within the Conservation District.
According to a state news release, Johnasen “recognizes the immense kuleana the position carries.”
“The decisions before the commission can shape our communities, our ʻāina and the opportunities available to generations yet to come,” Johnasen said. “I will approach this work with an open mind, respect for the people and places affected by each decision — and the confidence to make thoughtful choices grounded in what I believe is in the long-term best interest of our home.”
Johnasen is General Manager of Pacific Media Group Hawaiʻi Island and is founder and principal of Kōnane Consulting.
Hawaiʻi island residents may also recognize him as former Public Information Officer and Communications Director under previous Hawaiʻi County Mayor Mitch Roth.
Johnasen currently serves on the boards of directors of Child & Family Service Hawaiʻi, Teach For America and Hawaiʻi Island Community Health Center. He is a graduate of Kamehameha Schools Hawaiʻi and the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo.
